Email Update From:
Fr. Peter MacIsaac at St. Anne's Community of Concern (Hannah Town):

"Things are better in Hannah Town. A ceasefire from a few weeks ago seems to be developing into a more stable peace negotiation process. It has meant that gradually people are less afraid to come near St. Anne's... the way forward is slow in some ways, but given everything that has happened, it is remarkable how people are willing to try again and to piece together their lives."

Peter went on to say that most of St. Anne's youth programmes are back on track: the dance class meets twice a week with 20 children, and the afterschool remediation class meets three times per week.

The work of Sister Beverly in the community is expanded. Youth are coming to the Centre for sports activities after school. Parents of these youth have come out to a group meeting. There has been some interest among young men in the community to learn to read.

Through the leadership of the local community members, teachers and St. Anne's personnel, these programmes and others can help to build a foundation to address the critical issues faced by all members of this inner-city neighbourhood.
